Pine Bark Extract

pine bark extract Many of us take trees for granted… but the their bark is actually quite beneficial to our health, and has been used for many years (across many cultures) around the globe.

Pine bark extract (sold as pycnogenol), made from the maritime pine tree, which is native to the western Mediterranean, is rich in chemicals called proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins have a strong antioxidant activity and play a role in the stabilization of collagen and maintenance of elastin in connective tissue. Antioxidants are compounds that block the action of free radicals, which are activated oxygen molecules that can damage cells. Because of this researchers are beginning to believe that pine bark extract has the power to protect against an array of ailments ranging from arthritis, to cancer and heart disease to circulation problems.

Further researcher has found a link between this extract and anti-aging - as well as improved memory, quicker weight loss and enhanced kidney function. Keeping one’s kidneys healthy is paramount for health too because these organs remove waste and water from blood, balance chemicals in your body, control blood pressure and produce vitamin D to keep your bones strong and healthy.

The bark of these trees has numerous other health benefits as well. Pycnogenol may even be an effective way to treat hemorrhoids because of its ability to reduce overall inflammation in the body. And with the reduction of inflammation in the body, the reduction of many disorders follows suit.

While aging is not a dire condition, it does take almost everyone by surprise when they one day wake up in the morning feeling as though they aged ten years over night. Amazingly enough, if one takes pine bark extract, they may be able to turn back the clock a few years, or at least delay the aging process. The reason behind this is again the pine bark extract’s extraordinary antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Research has discovered that when people take pine bark extract, their levels of an enzyme that produces Hyaluronic Acid (a major contributing agent in our bodies that helps us retain moisture in the skin so as to make it look tighter and wrinkle-free) increase.

One might now be convinced to go outside and collect tree bark.. but hold it right there! Eating bark straight from any tree can be quite dangerous. The best way to get these benefits is by purchasing pine bark extract or pycnogenol from your local health food or vitamin store. In terms of dosage, do follow the guidelines recommended on the bottle, or follow the guidelines that most doctors recommend, anywhere from 250 to 300 milligrams per day for up to three weeks. After the three-week mark, taking less of the extract is plausible. You can also purchase a pine bark extract tea if you abhor taking pills.

Now when you gaze at trees, do your best to appreciate them.. they possess attributes that are quite essential to your health!
